This 3-hour program equips counselors, social workers, and therapists with practical, evidence-based techniques for managing escalating behaviors and responding effectively to active threat situations within outpatient or telehealth settings.
The course combines communication-based de-escalation techniques with scenario-driven threat response principles, designed to increase practitioner confidence and improve client and staff safety while maintaining ethical and legal responsibilities.
Objectives:
- Recognize verbal and non-verbal cues that signal potential escalation.
- Demonstrate de-escalation communication skills to defuse tense situations.
- Identify key components of a safe and ethical active threat response plan in a clinical setting.
- Describe legal and ethical considerations when implementing safety protocols during client crises.
- Develop a personal and agency-level plan for emergency response integration and prevention.
Registration begins at 8:30am. Please note lunch is not provided.
